We are delighted to share that our solar water project is now complete. It has taken several years to raise the £12,000+ required, but thanks to Joanie’s determination in driving this goal forward — and the incredible generosity of all our supporters — we finally began work in September 2025. The team dug an intake sump, erected an 8.5‑metre water tower, and installed the solar panels and piping. By the end of November, we saw the first water flowing onto the farm, and what a blessing it has been.
The transformation on the farm in such a short time has been remarkable. We’ve already been able to reintroduce bananas and establish a new pixie orchard — changes that simply wouldn’t have been possible before.
In February, we began constructing a new dam. Rainfall in Tharaka is scarce, and the community often faces seasons of drought and famine. This new dam, now complete, will provide a vital reserve of water, especially for irrigation if the Tana River dries up. We are also considering adding fish, which would provide valuable nutrition and an additional source of income for the farm.
